I drive business outcomes by aligning communications with strategy, purpose and people.
ABOUT

Hi, I’m Stephanie Roberts. I'm a global communications executive with a rare perspective as an American woman in Japan.
I’m drawn to the challenges that stretch me the most, like the roles no one has done before and the places few have gone before.
That curiosity has shaped my career. It led me to become my company’s first Chief Communications Officer and the first expat assigned to our Tokyo headquarters, where I have lived and worked for the past 3.5 years. Leading across languages, time zones and cultural norms has taught me what adaptability really means.
Today I lead global communications and branding for Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems, part of the Hitachi Group. My team spans the Americas, EMEA, China, Southeast Asia and Australia, covering everything from corporate and executive communications to media relations, internal communications, brand and reputation, digital and events.
What drives me most is a fascination with how culture, business and people intersect. I’ve worked across continents and visited more than 30 countries, and I always learn something new.
Outside of work, I’m often running, hiking, traveling or searching for the next great restaurant.
I hold a Master of Science in Communications from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from DePaul University.
I enjoy connecting with new people. Find me on LinkedIn, where I often share my perspective on communications and expat life with nearly 20,000 followers.
